Patent due diligence is the process of closely examining a company's portfolio of patents. It examines the amount and caliber of intellectual property that is either licensed to or held by a corporation, firm, or individual. Put differently, the process of carefully examining a patent portfolio and status is known as "patent due diligence." Due diligence assessment should be a part of a technological development and patent portfolio management strategy. An assessment of others' intellectual property (IP) would be conducted in order to provide them "freedom to operate" in a certain technology domain. In the context of a corporate transaction including the purchase or sale of a company, due diligence may also be included in the evaluation of patent portfolios.
Semi-automated approach
We recognize that our clients need to receive the most value possible while also having their costs optimized. Based on a set of criteria, we have created a grading system for locating important patents within a sizable portfolio. This rating system considers both objective and subjective factors, including market size and segmentation, number of independent claims, length of claim, and forward citation.
By hand
We may also offer a fully manual way to ranking patent analysis, wherein the scoring is predicated on a fully manual analysis, based on the demands of the client. All the characteristics utilized in the semi-automated approach are included in this study, but it also covers additional subjective parameters like life expectancy, the number of overseas family members, the availability of living family members, the quantity of office action answers, etc.
